Lifeline started in 1985, backed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), to help low-income folks in every US state, territory, and Tribal land connect with essential telecommunication services. It’s run by the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC) with funding from the U.S. Government. Since starting, Lifeline has helped millions with phone service discounts, keeping them connected to jobs, family, health care, and emergency services like 911.

The ACP makes broadband more affordable for work, school, and health services. Eligible homes can get up to $30 monthly towards internet service, or up to $75 on qualifying Tribal lands. There’s also a chance for a one-time discount of up to $100 on a laptop, desktop, or tablet if households contribute $10 to $50 towards the cost. Each household is eligible for one monthly service discount and one device discount.

Once your application is approved, expect your order shipped within 3 to 4 business days.

Approval usually takes 20-30 minutes, but some cases might need 3-4 days or more if your documents need re-verification. You can track your application by logging into your account, and you’ll get an email with confirmation and a tracking number once approved.

As a government-supported lifeline service, Free Phone Wireless requires the last four digits of your SSN to verify eligibility. This is necessary whether you’re qualifying through a benefit program or by income. Rest assured, your personal information is kept confidential and your privacy is our priority.

To find out where your application stands, check your email within 48-72 hours for updates, including any additional documentation requirements. Approved applications will also come with tracking information.

You must use your FREE Lifeline service at least once every 30 days to keep it active.
The Lifeline benefit must remain with the original recipient and is not transferable.

Proof of low-income status is required for enrollment.
